Period: 1950’s
Setting: Industrial Northern Town
Approx Layout size: 1.0m x 0.5m

Siege Street shows part of the tramway in the dying years of operation. Apart from the working track there are abandoned junctions where the system has been cut back. Principle features are the operating tramway, the many factories, canal basin and street scene.
A great deal of research was carried out by the members involved in this project to ensure that the layout is as accurate as possible.

Siege Street Tramway Layout
Layout Overview

Siege Street uses standard model railway track ‘buried’ in finishing plaster over cork, the tramcars are a mixture of Anglicised US-outline RTR single-deckers and semi-scratch built typical British double-deck types.
The canal ‘water’is under-painted perspex, which looks realistically ‘wet’, you really would not want to fall in! The water colour was matched to a photo taken at the top of the Spon Lane locks in Birmingham.

Trams are DC powered and controlled by multiple isolating sections that are switched from a small panel at the right end of the layout where a small depot is also located.

Although we built Siege Street several years ago, it is still maintained and remains operational. No significant new work is envisaged.
