We open at 7:00 PM most Friday evenings. Visitors are welcome, but if you are planning a special trip, please contact us beforehand to confirm.

This year we are excited to present the largest collection of layouts ever assembled in the clubroom and adjacent areas. A diverse range of scales will be featured, from ‘G’ to ‘N’. Our renowned ‘0’ scale Kensington Addison Road and ’00’ scale Northwick layouts will occupy the main hall space. Refreshments will also be available. A recent addition to the small West Brompton layout is the 3D-printed production masters for the Q38 trailer cars, essential for our second District Line train. The photo captures the bodyshell with both ends taped into place and mounted on the correctly asymmetrical bogies, though it doesn’t fully showcase the exceptional quality of the parts. These 3D prints will serve as the foundation for creating moulds to produce resin castings for the final kits.

With the layout now fully functional again, aside from a few minor glitches, focus is shifting to constructing an additional baseboard for this highly regarded 00 layout. An unusual train made an appearance last Friday evening:

Our new small ‘0’ layout, ‘West Brompton’, is progressing steadily. With the track secured and wiring finished, the team has shifted focus to the station buildings. Although some construction took place at home, a Friday evening work session offered the chance to position the building temporarily for review.

Model 1:43. District Ry Train Shed -West Brompton station. interior of roof and footbridge
Phone pic of the superb train-shed roof construction and footbridge.

Constructed from original drawings, the building’s walls consist of multiple laser-cut MDF layers. The right side extends beyond the main structure, forming a tall, arched retaining wall. The curved roof is made from soldered brass wire and structural elements, topped with wooden planks, except for a central glazed section that lets light into the otherwise dim interior. An unusual footbridge exists at West Brompton, featuring a double staircase descending in the same direction from the overhead walkway to the platforms. This connects both to the ticket office and the adjacent West London line station. Brass components have been used extensively in the construction, enhanced by custom brass etchings for the delicate stairway balustrades. There is still much more to be done on this layout.
