Eastgate ’00’
A small modern image layout
Eastgate comprises two baseboards with an overall length of about 3m, a ‘toe in the water’ layout project to create a modern railway scene.
To create a small ‘modern image’ layout in such a 3m space is a challenge and this limitation precludes most very large trains of today’s railway.
However, passenger commuter traffic is good and there is talk of electricifcation of the two platforms.
Two sidings remain in front of old and modernised warehouses; these see engineers traffic and some freight wagon storage workings from a nearby yard. The warehouses provide a foil to a traverser fiddleyard, making the layout self contained.
A ‘Pacer’ departing Eastgate
Eastgate features PECO code 75 flat bottom track with points operated by servos. DC or DCC may be used for loco control. MERG cbus is used for the two control panels, one of which may be mounted either at the front or rear of the layout and used for the freight and shunting operations. At present the layout is operational, but with a few teething snags to fix, whilst the town itself is getting a facelift.
One of two control panels; this one can be used eith at the front or rear of the layout
Eastgate started as a beginners project to encourage modern image modellers to join the Club, and alltough this layout is small, we also have a large multigauge continuous run test track for more ambitious operators.
